Both teams wanted to win, but the bigger goal was improving match sharpness.

Fans saw effort, intensity, and some exciting flashes.

It was also a game that marked the debut of a new attacking option; a moment every young player dreams of.

No goals were scored, but there was plenty to take away.

One team hit the bar, the other had a shot cleared off the line.

Players showed hunger.

One forward, in particular, made a strong first impression.

Will Wright made his debut in Liverpool colours on Saturday during a pre-season friendly that ended 0–0.

The game, played as part of the club’s summer preparations, gave the young striker a chance to show what he can offer.

Wright came on for the final 30 minutes as Liverpool changed all ten outfield players on the hour mark.

His introduction brought more energy into the attack, and he nearly made it a dream debut.

With seven minutes left, he reacted well inside the box after a deflected shot came his way.

He got a clean strike on it, but the Hull City goalkeeper made a sprawling save right on the line to deny him.

Before Wright came on, Liverpool had created several chances.

Calvin Ramsay forced a save with a low drive after flipping the ball over a defender’s head.

Lewis Koumas and Keyrol Figueroa also had shots saved or blocked in a lively first half.

In the second half, Kaide Gordon, Kieran Morrison, and Trent Kone-Doherty all added pace and sharpness.

Gordon beat his man on the right but shot straight at the keeper.

Later, he set up a goalbound shot for Terence Miles, but it was blocked at the last second.

Wright’s effort might not have gone in, but it was a bright start.

He’ll be hoping for more minutes, and maybe a goal, in the next pre-season outing.
