Lewis Koumas is set to become the latest Liverpool player to leave this summer after Birmingham City won the race for his signature.

Koumas will agree a season-long loan with the Midlands side, who were promoted back to the Championship last term.

Both Birmingham and Wrexham were keen on a permanent move for the 19-year-old, who spent the previous campaign in the second tier with Stoke City.

Long-time suitors Sheffield United made a strong attempt to lure the Wales international, with Norwich City, Preston North End and Hull City having also been interested.

Koumas, though, has opted to link up for the season with Birmingham, for whom American Football legend Tom Brady is a minority owner.

The youngster scored on his senior Liverpool debut in the FA Cup win over Southampton in February last year and was on the bench for the League Cup final win over Chelsea in 2023/24.

He made 49 appearances for Stoke last season and also earned six full Wales caps.

Koumas will become the sixth Liverpool player to depart on loan this summer, with Luca Stephenson at Dundee United, Vitezslav Jaros at Ajax, Owen Beck with Derby County, Harvey Davies going to Crawley Town and Isaac Mabaya initially joining Wigan Athletic but presently back at the AXA Training Centre having suffered an injury.

James Norris is also on a temporary stay with Shelbourne having moved to the Republic of Ireland team earlier in the year.
