Liverpool hope to have Harvey Elliott play this season after he underwent successful surgery on his ankle.

Dr Jim Moxon, Liverpool club doctor who was first on the pitch to treat Elliott, along with first-team physiotherapist Chris Morgan, explained how they hope to have the teenager back playing before the end of the season.

“Harvey sustained a fracture dislocation of his left ankle during the game,” he told .

Jurgen Klopp said in his pre-match press conference that Elliott would have surgery on Tuesday, and now the club have confirmed the procedure was a success.

“We were able to reduce the dislocation immediately on the pitch and Harvey had surgery today to repair the fracture and ligaments damaged in the incident.

Elliott received treatment on the pitch and was then taken to Leeds General Infirmary for further assessment.

“We won’t put pressure on him by setting a specific timeframe beyond being able to say with confidence we expect him to feature again later in the season following our rehab programme.”
