The funeral of former Liverpool and Tottenham goalkeeper Ray Clemence took place on Wednesday.

"Today in (sic) the funeral of our great colleague and friend, Ray Clemence.

An £18,000 signing from Scunthorpe by Bill Shankly, he was a key member of the Liverpool team which dominated Europe between 1977 and 1981, and also picked up two UEFA Cups, an FA Cup and the League Cup.

A private family service was held for the ex-England international, who died last month aged 72.

At Tottenham, whom he joined in 1981 aged 32 for a fee of £300,000, he won another UEFA Cup and FA Cup.

Clemence won 61 England caps and made 665 appearance in his 14 years with Liverpool, winning three European Cups and five First Division titles during a trophy-laden spell at Anfield.

Another team-mate Graham Roberts tweeted: "I have to say that Ray Clemence's family have done him proud, the ceremony was absolutely beautiful and Vee, Stephen, Julie and Sarah you should be very proud, your dad was very special and I will miss him.
