Liverpool announced Friday that Jeremie Frimpong has officially been signed to a long-term deal and it seems Mohamed Salah was a part of its thinking.

May 30 has proven to be a busy one for Liverpool, as it was confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold had prematurely joined Real Madrid after an $11.3 million offer was accepted so that he could compete in the Club World Cup.

While Frimpong has shown that he is a capable right-back for both Leverkusen and the Dutch national team, Liverpool doesn't see him as a like-for-like replacement, and Mohamed Salah's expected absence next season was also a factor in the deal.

Liverpool has paid $40 million for Frimpong after triggering his release clause, with Leverkusen set to receive the money in three separate, annual installments.

Frimpong then joined Celtic before signing a long-term deal with Leverkusen, but once Liverpool came knocking, it was an easy decision.
