Liverpool have reportedly been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman.

The Reds have been linked with the 27-year-old for some time, despite his Everton connections, and even more so following his rise in Serie A with Atalanta.

Lookman was first signed by the Toffees from Charlton Athletic in 2017 but had a loan spell at RB Leipzig before he moved to the Bundesliga on a permanent basis in 2019.

There, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter and was ultimately sent out on loan to Fulham and Leicester City in the 20/21 and 21/22 seasons respectively.

He was signed by Atalanta in a permanent deal in the summer of 2022, where he has since enjoyed plenty of success, including a stunning hat-trick in the Europa League final last season.

His 49 goals in 108 appearances for the Italian club has resulted in transfer attention from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, and it now appears he could depart Atalanta in the summer.

This comes after manager Gian Piero Gasperini labelled Lookman as the worst penalty taker he has ever seen following his miss from the spot in their Champions League play-off defeat to Club Brugge last month.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool and Arsenal enquired about Lookman's availability last summer but never followed up on their interest.

While a move to Paris Saint-Germain also appeared to be on the cards for the winger, they failed to agree terms with Atalanta and have since signed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli.

The article claims Atalanta would prefer to sell Lookman to a club overseas if they are to finally part ways with him at the end of the current season.

That would give Premier League clubs the upper hand ahead of the likes of Juventus, who have also been credited with interest in the Nigeria international.

A stumbling block could be his fee, which reports in Italy place in the region of £50million.
