Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister has given the team a fitness boost ahead of the weekend, having successfully completed Argentina's World Cup qualifier in Ecuador.

This marked Mac Allister's first full 90-minute game since Liverpool's victory over Leicester in April.

The World Cup winner played during his country's 1-0 defeat on Tuesday.

Prior to the game, Argentina's manager Lionel Scaloni had expressed concerns about the midfielder's fitness, stating he was "not at 100 percent," which led to him being benched for the 3-0 home win against Venezuela last week.

However, Mac Allister has made significant progress in regaining his match fitness, just in time for Liverpool's Premier League game against Burnley this Sunday.

Toward the end of Tuesday's game, which saw both teams lose a player to red cards, Mac Allister was involved in a heated exchange with Ecuador's Piero Hincapie, who is currently on loan at Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen, following an altercation with Argentina's Franco Mastantuono.

International break round-up

Meanwhile, in other South American matches, Alisson Becker delivered a standout performance but was unable to prevent Brazil's defeat in Bolivia due to a penalty just before halftime.

This result pushed the Selecao down to fifth place in the final standings of the South American qualification group, trailing 10 points behind leader Argentina.

However, both teams have already secured their spots in next summer's finals.

In European soccer, Milos Kerkez and Dominik Szoboszlai took to the pitch for Hungary in the team's 3-2 defeat at home to Portugal in Group F.

Ibrahima Konate started for France, as Hugo Ekitike made a late appearance in the team's 2-1 victory over Iceland in Group D.

Mohamed Salah played a crucial role in moving Egypt within two points of World Cup qualification with two matches remaining, following a goalless stalemate at Burkina Faso in African qualifying Group A.

A host of younger Liverpool talents were also on international duty

Goalkeeper Armin Pecsi was in goal for Hungary in the team's 1-1 draw with Lithuania in the U21 Euros qualifier.

Trent Kone-Doherty, meanwhile, made his debut for the Republic of Ireland U21s in the team's 1-0 triumph against Andorra.

Last but not least, Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni both made appearances from the bench for England U19s in the team's 4-1 win over the Netherlands.
