Liverpool are still waiting patiently for Alexander Isak but he could end up being a waste of money.
The Reds have spent almost £300m this summer and if they do eventually sign Isak from Newcastle, that figure will be a lot closer to £450m instead.
That does not seem to bother Liverpool, though, as the Swede still remains their top target, and the 25-year-old is still desperate to make the move happen.
After insisting that he will never play for the club again, Isak doubled down on his stance when meeting with the Newcastle hierarchy on Monday, with the striker still very set in his ways.
This is, of course, good news for Liverpool but whether a move happens does not depend on him, it depends on whether the Magpies finally let him go.
If they do not, however, it might not be the end of the world, as the Reds have been handed further proof why they do not really need him anyway.

If there is one thing Liverpool have been known for, it is that they play free-flowing, attacking football which is a joy to watch.
Jurgen Klopp installed this philosophy and Arne Slot has continued to carry the torch, with the Reds now scoring in 39 of the Dutchman’s 40 Premier League matches in charge.

This means they have netted in 98% of the games he has managed, which is the highest rate of any manager with 15+ matches in the competition’s history according to TNT Sports.

Although this is a remarkable statistic, it does show one thing, and that is their attack is not a problem in the slightest.
With that said, that suggests that there are more pressing issues at hand, like sorting out the defence, so making a move to sign Isak seems a little bit unnecessary.
The first two games of the new season have proven just that as well, with Liverpool the highest scorers after netting seven goals, but they have also conceded the fourth-most goals in the division too.
Signing Isak would certainly be the dream for many fans and after coming this far, it would seem silly to back out now.
However, bringing in a centre-back first is a more sensible idea, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi the man they should be going for.
Both parties are keen on the move to happen, the gap in valuation is the only thing needing to be resolved.
There seems to be around a £5m difference between what Liverpool want to pay and what Palace are asking for, although performances suggest the Reds should just pay it and move on.
