The latest development on Newcastle United’s striker situation has handed Liverpool a potential roadblock in their attempt to sign Alexander Isak.
Liverpool’s summer transfer window has already delivered a flurry of headlines, but now all eyes on Merseyside have turned to arguably the blockbuster move of the transfer season.
The Reds’ persistent interest in Isak has been there all summer.
Despite the signing of Hugo Ekitike, Arne Slot still wants to bring the Swedish striker to Anfield.
The player himself wants to come to Liverpool, and he has agreed on personal terms with the club.
This is according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reported that “Liverpool have already agreed personal terms to sign Alexander Isak – with a six-year deal ready to be signed.
Taking to X, the German reporter claimed:
“Understand: Alexander Isak has already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool over a contract running until 2031.”
“Isak wants to make the move to LFC as early as this transfer window.”
Liverpool are said to be preparing a record bid for Isak, with the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich beefing up the club’s transfer chest.
However, despite Liverpool’s eagerness to do the deal, it appears Newcastle United will be unable to sanction a move for Isak as they struggle to get his replacement.
Isak has informed the Magpies about his desire to leave this summer, and the club have entered the market for his replacement.
RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is among the key targets Newcastle are looking to sign.
However, the Slovenian is leaning more towards a move to Manchester United, who are also keen on signing him.
Should that be the case, Newcastle will block the path for Isak to leave.
This is according to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, who has been at the forefront of Isak to Liverpool reports.
Speaking on YouTube about Newcastle’s transfer targets for the No.
9 position, Hope said that if Newcastle can sign either of Rodrigo Muniz or Benjamin Sesko, “then it opens the door for an Alexander Isak exit.”
However, the journalist revealed that if Eddie Howe’s side fails to land any of these players, then “Alexander Isak will probably and definitely be told ‘you’re going nowhere.’ You can honour that contract and come back in and train with the group.
“This is the development I got?
I got word tonight during the game that the feeling internally at Newcastle is that Sesko is more likely to go to Manchester United.”
“I think tonights development increases the odds of Isak being told you have to stay at Newcastle this summer,” he added.
With Newcastle hesitant to part ways without a replacement in hand, Liverpool’s path to signing Isak could now hinge entirely on how the Magpies navigate the striker market in the coming days.
