Manchester City has announced that Omar Marmoush will be absent from Sunday's Premier League game against Manchester United due to a knee injury sustained while on international duty.
The striker, who plays alongside Liverpool star Mohamed Salah at international level, was injured in the fourth minute of Egypt's goalless draw with Burkina Faso on Tuesday after a heavy tackle.
In a statement, City said: "Manchester City FC can confirm that Omar Marmoush has sustained a knee injury whilst on international duty with Egypt.
"The City striker suffered the injury in the early stages of Egypt’s World Cup qualifying match with Burkina Faso on Tuesday evening.
"Initial results on a scan performed in Egypt indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday, and he will now return to Manchester for more assessment and to begin his rehabilitation.
The Egyptian FA described the injury as a "knee ligament bruise," but Marmoush will undergo additional tests at City to assess the full extent of the issue.
Having started City's two prior Premier League matches this season on the left wing, he is now expected to be replaced by Jeremy Doku this weekend
