Bobby Clark's father has admitted the departure of Pep Lijnders as Red Bull Salzburg's head coach was difficult for his son to take as he discussed the player's future at the club.

Clark moved to the Austrian outfit from Liverpool last summer, penning a long-term contract and looking forward to playing under the tutelage of a familiar face in Lijnders.

Lijnders assisted Jurgen Klopp for several years at Liverpool and developed a lofty reputation as a coach, but his two managerial stints have been short-lived, with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in 2018 and with Salzburg last year.

The 42-year-old was in charge of Salzburg for just 29 games, being dismissed on 16 December, just five and a half months after being handed the job.

Clark started 11 games under Lijnders and has started just two since the Dutchman's sacking, prompting questions over the 20-year-old's long-term future with the Red Bull club.

Liverpool sold Clark for £10 million ($13 million) and insisted on 17.5 per cent sell-on clause in the contract, meaning that the Reds would stand to make more money from the deal were Salzburg to make a profit on what it bought the player for.

"Bobby is enjoying life in Austria.

Salzburg are trying to win the league, which is always their aim, if not to get into Champions League again.

"It has been hard, the manager he went and signed for in Pepijn Lijnders lost his job so it was the first time Bobby experienced that.

Pep Lijnders was sacked by Salzburg in December.

He went to RB Salzburg because he had a lot of respect for Pep Lijnders who was Jurgen Klopp's assistant when he left Liverpool

But he has a long-term contract at Red Bull and we will see what happens next.
