Liverpool has made signing a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah a top priority over the next couple of years, with Michael Olise apparently a possible target.

Salah signed a new contract with Liverpool toward the end of last season, committing his future to the Anfield club until 2027 and putting a stop to speculation — temporarily at least — that a move to Saudi Arabia could be on the cards.

Salah turned 33 in June and will be 35 when his contract expires, and although he shows no sign of slowing down any time soon, Liverpool will eventually need to find a successor for one of the club's greatest-ever players.

New signing Jeremie Frimpong, who lined up at right-back in Liverpool's opening game of the campaign, can play further forward, but it is clearly too early to say whether he has it what it takes to fill Salah's boots in the years ahead.

Former Crystal Palace star Olise has emerged as one of the best right wingers in the world in recent years, and has shone since moving to Bayern Munich last year, but Liverpool could be plotting to bring him back to the Premier League before long, according to the Daily Mail.

Of course, he would not come cheap — but Liverpool is not afraid of splashing the cash on the right player, as this summer's business has shown.

One player who won't be filling Salah's boots — unless the Reds exercise a buy-back option — is Harvey Elliott, who sealed a deadline day move to Aston Villa on Monday.

Elliott was one of several outgoing players who Liverpool negotiated a significant fee for during the summer window, with the 22-year-old joining Villa on an initial loan deal but with an obligation for the Villans to make the deal permanent for £35 million ($47 million) next summer.

At Liverpool, Elliott was faced with the unenviable task of going up against Salah for a spot in the team

A few days after Elliott's move to Villa was finalized, Salah sent a message to the youngster on social media, tipping him to show his quality for his new club.

"You’ll be remembered for your loyalty and dedication every time you were called upon," Salah wrote on social media
