The former midfielder has since confirmed the call during a press conference on Friday, ending any hopes Liverpool, or indeed Bayern Munich, had of hiring him.

Roberto De Zerbi, Rúben Amorim and Julian Nagelsmann are among the favorites to land the top job on Merseyside.

"Rúben Amorim could be impossible to ignore" - James Findlater

Well, if I was Michael Edwards, I would be organizing a meeting with Jürgen Klopp and asking the question every Liverpool fan wants to.

The German seems adamant he’ll be leaving at the end of the season though, so I don’t think that approach will get very far.

With Alonso out of the question then, my focus would be turning to Rúben Amorim.

Roberto De Zerbi certainly deserves to be in the conversation, but for me, Amorim would be impossible to ignore.

Winning a first league title for Sporting CP in nearly 20 years is already an impressive feat, and he might well add another this season.

It’s Amorim for me.

"Roberto De Zerbi would suit Liverpool well" - Liam Prenderville

Roberto De Zerbi has received plenty of plaudits since taking over as Brighton boss and is deservedly on the radar of a number of top clubs.
