Arne Slot's Liverpool have shown a knack for late drama already this season.

And that trait is beginning to rub off on the Academy teams.

The under-21s earned a first victory under new boss Rob Page on Friday night when an 86th-minute strike from substitute Keyrol Figueroa earned a 2-1 Premier League 2 triumph at Stoke City's Clayton Wood complex.

Figueroa, who had replaced summer signing Will Wright shortly before the hour, finished from close range after Trent Kone-Doherty had a shot blocked.

Liverpool had taken the lead in the ninth minute when a Kone-Doherty cross was turned into his own net by Stoke defender Jaden Dixon, but were pegged back on 33 minutes when goalkeeper Armin Pecsi misjudged a corner and Adriel Walker forced the ball home.

Meanwhile, Liverpool U18s continued their goal-laden start to the U18 Premier League North season under new boss Simon Wiles with a thumping 6-1 win against Burnley at Barnfield Training Centre on Saturday.

Joe Bradshaw, the 17-year-old winger who was top scorer last season, and Josh Sonni-Lambie both netted twice as the Reds bounced back from a 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa in the U18 Premier League Cup in midweek.

AJ Yeguo opened the scoring after only two minutes when found by Finn Inglethorpe, although Burnley levelled five minutes later through George Brierley.

The Reds ran away with the game in the second half.

Yeguo won a penalty converted by Sonni-Lambie, Bradshaw thumped in a rebound after his initial shot was saved and Sonni-Lambie turned home a DJ Esdaille cross.

Substitute La'more Lee Forrester then sprinted away to net the fifth before Bradshaw completed the scoring.

Liverpool U21s are next in Premier League 2 action on Sunday, September 21 when they entertain Manchester United (kick-off 2pm) while the U18s are at home to Newcastle United on Saturday, September 13 in the U18 Premier League North (kick-off 1pm).
