Eyebrows were most certainly raised when it emerged on Thursday afternoon that Liverpool are interested in signing Marc Guehi.
As reported by the ECHO on Friday morning, the Reds are now prioritising a young centre-back to replace Jarell Quansah, who is closing in on a £35m move to Bayer Leverkusen.
The ECHO understands that Guehi, who is in the final year of his deal at Crystal Palace, is admired at Anfield, and a deal could be arranged if a relatively cut-price agreement can be reached.
Newcastle United have also long been interested in signing the England international.
And speaking last year, former Reds forward Michael Owen delivered a glowing endorsement of Guehi, just days after England were beaten by Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

“Marc Guehi is obviously a very good player [but] I can't imagine Crystal Palace will want to lose another player,” he told Prime Casino.

"I come in every day and I try to be the same.
And you know, this football club has given me a lot.
