Liverpool are heading into a period of change this summer with turnover expected with coaches as well as players.
The Reds are already showing intent in the transfer market, as Arne Slot aims to build a team capable of retaining the Premier League title.
But while the focus is obviously on improving the Liverpool squad in terms of playing staff, there is work to be done behind the scenes as well.
Slot’s second assistant, John Heitinga, has left the Liverpool coaching staff in order to take up a head coach job with Ajax.
Former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt is under consideration to replace Heitinga, as the Reds look to go Dutch once again.
There are changes to be made beyond the first team as well, though.
And as Liverpool look to change direction in their academy, former superstar striker Fernando Torres could be a candidate.

Torres was a terrific player for Liverpool.
When the Spaniard was playing just in front of Steven Gerrard and banging in goals for fun, it felt as though just about anything was possible.
Of course, his goals are unfortunately not what many remember Torres for at Anfield these days.
The pain of his January 2011 move to Chelsea is still felt deeply.

Nevertheless, Torres healed some of those wounds by returning to play at Anfield in the LFC Legends match in March 2024.
During his visit, in which he once again scored in front of the Kop, Torres visited Liverpool’s training ground and academy at the invitation of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders.

As an aspiring coach himself, Torres was keen to learn from Klopp and Lijnders.
Perhaps a change of scenery back to Merseyside could be the next stage of his development.
While it would be easy to dismiss this as wishful thinking, Liverpool are often very methodical in their planning behind the scenes.
No other former player, some of whom are coaches as well, was invited to spend time with Klopp and Lijnders just over one year ago.
Clearly, we do not know the ins and outs of what went on, but it does seem curious that Torres should get an invitation while a rebuild is potentially in the works.
Of course, there is also a possibility that Liverpool did not know Lewtas and Bridge-Wilkinson were going in March of last year.
Liverpool will not hire based on sentimental reasons, but Torres is highly rated, and if they think he is a viable candidate then maybe they’ll give him a call.
