Liverpool have already made something crystal clear to RB Leipzig about their move for Harvey Elliott

Harvey Elliott has looked likely to leave Liverpool all summer, and now it appears he is next up on the chopping block.

The 22-year-old saw his minutes significantly reduced under Arne Slot last term, starting only twice in the Premier League with 16 appearances off the bench.

Elliott showed glimpses of his unwavering quality despite his lack of game time, most notably scoring the winner in the final moments of the Champions League Round of 16 first leg against PSG.

However, with Darwin Nunez agreeing a deal with Al-Hilal, the next major departure at Anfield is likely to see Elliott leave his boyhood club.

Nevertheless, the Reds have indicated that any sale will be sanctioned on their terms alone.

According to The Daily Mirror, Elliott is negotiating terms with RB Leipzig, but Liverpool have shown an eagerness to see a buy-back clause inserted into the deal.

A similar agreement was hashed out when the Reds sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, which ultimately allows the club to move the player on and protect their best interests should the centre-back develop into a world-class talent in Germany.

Considering Elliott is a well-known Liverpool fan, including a buy-back clause would be in the interests of all involved as it would allow Elliott to fulfill the goal he set for himself when he arrived at Anfield in 2019.

Ideally the Reds should be selling outside of the Premier League to avoid strengthening rivals ahead of Slot’s first title defence, it is indisputable that Elliott could walk into almost any side in the English top-flight.

With that said, West Ham are interested in Elliott’s services and should a move to the Bundesliga fail to materialise, a starring role at the London Stadium could be the perfect next step for his development, albeit, a move in England would all but destroy any chance of a buy-back clause in the deal.

Although Trey Nyoni suffered a slight injury setback in the pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Monday, it is clear that the young midfielder has a bright future at Anfield.

Liverpool handed Nyoni a new squad number following the release of the new Adidas strip and his continued involvement in first-team preparations is a clear sign of what is to come.

Once Elliott completes his seemingly inevitable departure, Curtis Jones will be the remaining midfielder who will be able to rotate with Florian Wirtz in the attacking midfield role.

This, in turn, will free up a space in the deeper positions for Nyoni, who has proven more than capable of rubbing shoulders with the senior squad.

With Rio Ngumoha also in line for promotion to the first team for the upcoming campaign, Slot is displaying his dedication to developing the host of talented young prospects at the AXA Training Centre and showing there will always be a clear pathway for youngsters at Liverpool.
