Liverpool are still in the market for another centre-half and a long-standing target has put himself on the market.

The Reds have not exactly been very secretive about their desire to bring in another centre-back this summer, with everyone knowing at this point that this is something they are looking to do in the final week of the window.

Marc Guehi has been the top target and seems to be the most likely to happen if they get someone, but with gaps in valuation between Liverpool and Crystal Palace, not much movement has occurred.

Liverpool were not expected to seek a Guehi alternative and it seems to be the Englishman or no one this summer, but that might be about to change.

This is because a player who the Reds have been looking at for quite some time has chosen to leave his club, making this their best opportunity to reignite any interest.

Many names have been linked with a move to Anfield but none have been very concrete, especially not compared to some in the past.

Although he has not been rumoured to join too much this summer, Liverpool have kept close tabs on Piero Hincapie for a few years now, and there is a big chance they go back in for him.

Despite reports saying Hincapie was not for sale, the player seems to have taken it upon himself to make a decision and journalist Florian Plettenberg has confirmed he has decided to leave.

The Ecuadorian is said to have a €60m (£52m) release clause and if an offer of around that arrives, he will seriously consider the move.

Leverkusen still want to keep the 23-year-old but that seems very tricky now given his stance and the interest in him.

Hincapie sent Liverpool a reminder of just how good he is during an international game against Brazil and after excelling in the Bundesliga for many seasons, he feels this might now be the time to move on.

This was proven further as after the German side’s game against Hoffenheim at the weekend, he was seen crying after the game, indicating that he had just played his last game for the Bundesliga outfit.

Not only is this a good opportunity for Liverpool as he wants out, but Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the teams mostly interested come from England.

Arsenal seem the most likely at this point in time as Romano has reported that they are ready to send in a bid for the 23-year-old, although that depends on their outgoings.

With that said, Liverpool need to act quickly if they are to land him, with other Premier League clubs such as Tottenham also interested.

Arsenal, however, appear most likely to sign him at this point in time, although as seen already this summer, a last-minute hijack could change everything.
