Liverpool’s place in the Champions League could see them finally tempt Arne Slot to make a move to the Premier League.

The Dutchman has been installed as the favourite to take over the Anfield hot seat once Jurgen Klopp leaves. Reports have suggested that the Reds are ready to move for the current Feyenoord boss after being left frustrated in their pursuits of Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim.

It is not the first time that Slot has been linked with a Premier League switch. Ahead of appointing Ange Postecoglou, it was reported that Tottenham were interested in his services.

The North London side even went so far as to table an offer to Slot. However, he rejected the chance to move, with managing in the Champions League as one of his key demands.

“The decisive factor was playing the Champions League,” the 44-year-old revealed. “The fantastic work with the staff and the players, the fact that I’m having a great time privately and being able to build on the past two seasons.

“I didn’t know what would happen [with Tottenham]. weighed everything up, including whether the people who work with me would want to come with me. You can think of it, but I don’t think it’s chic to say! But my intention is to stay because that already raises an expectation.”

Slot’s current side Feyenoord secured a spot in the competition this term after winning the Eredivisie this campaign. They failed to get out of their group - subsequently dropping into the Europa League - and were then eliminated by Serie A giants Roma.

As it stands, Liverpool could match Slot’s demands for a spot in the Champions League next season. The Reds currently sit second in the Premier League and 14 points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham.

Two wins from their next five games would guarantee Liverpool returning to the top table of European football next term. They are unlikely to be satisfied with that given the Reds could also realistically secure a second Premier League title under Klopp before the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Slot could potentially be reunited with Feyenoord next season. The Dutch side are also on the verge of booking their Champions League spot. Slot’s side sit second in the Eredivisie but 12 points clear of Twente with four matches of the campaign remaining.

Slot, 45, has two years remaining on his contract in Rotterdam. It has been suggested that it would take £8.59million for Liverpool to buy him out of that deal.
