Liverpool have a huge task on their hands this summer, and it became slightly more complicated earlier this week when vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold announced he would be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Arne Slot’s side may be Premier League champions, but work is still needed if they’re to go further in the Champions League and retain their title next term.
Alexander-Arnold’s departure had been somewhat anticipated as the season wore on, but the announcement now confirms that a decision will need to be made regarding his position.
The Reds already have players within their ranks who could step up, but links with right-backs from both the Premier League and across Europe are beginning to ramp up.
At 29, he’s slightly older than the typical age profile the Reds tend to target, but his performances for Inter this season have helped them reach the Champions League final.
Dumfries would no doubt be a costly signing, which could prompt Liverpool to explore other options.
Links with 18-year-old Feyenoord starlet Givairo Read have emerged this season, largely due to the fact he was handed his senior debut by Slot during the Dutch manager’s time at the Eredivisie club.
He also has the versatility to play at left-back when required and has made 23 league appearances this term, registering seven assists in that time.
Sticking with the Dutch players, RB Leipzig’s Lutsharel Geertruida has also been linked with Liverpool in recent times.
