Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike helped Arne Slot’s Liverpool to a historic victory over Everton at Anfield.

Gravenberch netted a sensational effort, lobbing the ball over a helpless Jordan Pickford after just 10 minutes, before Alexander Isak‘s competition doubled the Reds’ lead before the half-hour mark.

Idrissa Gueye offered David Moyes‘ side a sliver of hope at Anfield on Saturday, 20 September, but it was not quite enough for the Toffees to launch a devastating comeback against their rivals.

Beto was slammed by Everton fans for his performance, and Moyes was clearly not happy either, as he made the switch to Thierno Barry during the half-time break.

The win sees Slot’s side take a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table before the 3pm kick-offs on Saturday, 20 September, and that is not the only feat achieved on the day.

According to Squawka, the Reds have won their opening five games of a Premier League season for just the third time, having also done so in 2018-19 and 2019-20.

In the former campaign, Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool lost out on the league title to Man City by just a single point, before following up that with the Premier League trophy in the next season.

This is an extremely exciting sign for the supporters, especially as many believe that Liverpool have not yet moved out of second gear despite their generally positive performances across all competitions.

Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea have all strengthened significantly over the summer months, but it will take a lot more for them to keep up with the Reds at the top of the table.

In 90 minutes at Anfield, not only did Gravenberch open the scoring for the Reds, but he also impressed massively in the middle of the pitch as his team held onto the 2-1 win.

He completed 84 per cent of his passes, bagged an assist, created one big chance, made eight passes into the final third, made seven recoveries, and also won 67 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].

With two goals and two assists in his first five games, there is no doubt over how incredibly key the Dutch international is to Liverpool’s success, possibly taking over the reins from Alexis Mac Allister.
