Liverpool are making waves in the transfer market as they prepare to finalise their season on Sunday.

The Reds are due to lift the Premier League trophy at Anfield after a rip-roaring success of a campaign.

Beyond that, full focus will be on improving the Liverpool squad in what looks set to be a summer of excitement for Reds fans.

Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly already signed and sealed, while a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz is also in the works.

Liverpool fans have been told to get excited over Wirtz as the move edges ever closer, but it’s unlikely that the Reds’ recruitment team are finished there.

Along with Frimpong and Wirtz, Liverpool have also been in discussions over Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

But with the Reds trying to advance quickly on Wirtz, a move for Kerkez has hit a slight delay.

Liverpool certainly need a new left-back this summer after seeing Andy Robertson begin to decline.

Kerkez has been installed as a top target to be Robertson’s nominal replacement and after the Reds began talks with Bournemouth a deal looked to be close.

However, speaking to Men In Blazers on Friday evening, journalist Fabrizio Romano says the Wirtz conversations are now taking priority for Liverpool.

The delay is unlikely to be terminal, though, with the Reds still in the driving seat for Kerkez.

“For Kerkez I maintain my position, he remains the priority target at left-back,” says the transfer expert.

“Talks with Bournemouth are still ongoing, the player is keen on joining Liverpool, so that story remains absolutely concrete.

“This Florian Wirtz decision has probably changed the timing, you give priority to Florian Wirtz, but that doesn’t mean they’re not caring about Kerkez.

He remains an important target.”

While most Liverpool supporters will have no problem with their club prioritising the deal for Wirtz, Kerkez is arguably an even more important signing.

Wirtz will add a huge amount to Liverpool and could end up being their best signing in years, but he is not an absolute necessity right now.

But Robertson’s performances at times this season have shone a light on just how badly Liverpool need another option at left-back.

Thankfully, there doesn’t seem to be much danger of them missing out on Kerkez despite this delay.

Rousing The Kop understands that despite rumours of interest from Man City and Real Madrid, Kerkez has his heart set on a move to Anfield and is still likely to arrive this summer.
