Marc Guehi is a player of interest to Liverpool as the Reds weigh up their centre-back options ahead of Jarell Quansah’s exit from the club.
But they are willing to be patient in pursuit of the right defender, even if that means not recruiting such a player this summer.

However, Liverpool are also known to be monitoring Crystal Palace captain Guehi, with an expiring contract presenting an attractive opportunity.
Newcastle United had as many as four bids rejected for the defender last summer, with the highest totalling £65m.
But now inside the final year of his contract, the Eagles will unlikely be able to demand such a high fee.
And with Palace working on a £40m deal to sign Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon, they are seemingly resigned to their captain’s departure - either this summer or next - and are planning for life without him accordingly.

The ECHO has been informed that Guehi would jump at the opportunity to move to Anfield if the opportunity arose, while it has also been suggested in the national media that the England international would be willing to see out his at Selhurst Park and then depart as a free agent next summer.
Likewise, Liverpool are keeping close tabs on his current situation at Palace as they assess whether a cut-price deal could be possible this summer or whether to revisit interest in a year’s time when the 24-year-old will be available on a Bosman transfer - at a time when Virgil van Dijk will be midway through his two-year contract extension and Ibrahima Konate could have departed at the end of his own current deal.
If the Reds are to negotiate a cut-price deal, they have the perfect blueprint to follow having been in this situation before.
Back in the summer of 2017, they were interested in signing another 24-year-old England international who was down to the final year of his contract.
Liverpool signed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a £35m deal - rising to £40m from add-ons - from Arsenal in August 2017 after the midfielder made it clear he would not be signing a new contract with the Gunners.
It has been eight years since that Oxlade-Chamberlain transfer, after all.
But even taking inflation into consideration, it perhaps hints to the rough figure Liverpool might be willing to pay for Guehi this summer if Palace decided to sell.

It is clear they can not hope to get near the £65m they previously rejected from Newcastle.
But with the Eagles working on a £40m deal for Diomande, they would likely expect to make their money back with a little bit left over to sell their wantaway captain.
Time will tell what their exact demands are and whether Liverpool would be willing to pay such a fee.
But with both clubs anticipating further movement at centre-back this summer, signing Guehi is at least a market opportunity that would be there for the taking.
