The summer transfer window will reopen in a few days time, and Liverpool are currently being linked with further potential new signings.

The Reds have already been active in the transfer market ahead of the 2025/26 season and are showing no signs of slowing down.

One of the latest rumours centred around Liverpool concerns Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio.

Reports from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have claimed that the Reds are showing an interest in signing the centre-back this summer.

Inacio, who is said to have a £51million release clause in his Sporting contract, is also rumoured to be targeted by Manchester United and Newcastle.

This isn't the first time that the Portugal international has been linked with the Reds, with Inacio being frequently mentioned on the rumour mill over the last couple of years.

If Liverpool were to agree a deal to sign Inacio, they could already have the perfect welcome gift lined up.

As is often the case when a new signing is confirmed, that player is soon handed a squad number they will then wear during their time at the club.

For Inacio, Liverpool could already have the perfect number lined up for the centre-back.

The Reds currently have the No.6 squad number available to new signings, and that has been vacant since Thiago Alcantara left the club in the summer of 2024.

Before Thiago was given the No.6 in 2020 - after his arrival from Bayern Munich - it was previously worn by Dejan Lovren, who did so for his six years at the club.

Now, the famous number, which has been worn by several club heroes, including Alan Hansen and Emlyn Hughes, is available to new signings.

Liverpool are also yet to confirm a new shirt number for Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili, while a big-money deal for Florian Wirtz has been agreed by the club, too.
