The 19-year-old midfielder, one of the club’s most highly-rated prospects, has spoken about growing up in the city, Steven Gerrard’s influence on him and what it’s meant to break through into Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

“Growing up in Liverpool, Steven Gerrard is the king of the city,” he wrote.

“He is the one you look up to and think 'wow, imagine being him!'. Working with him a bit closer as my U18s manager he was someone who has been massive for me in the game already.

“I would always watch Cristiano Ronaldo as a kid and I wanted to be him as a player but now, as I get older, I can appreciate so many other types of footballers.

"So many, I look back at the ones I was too young to remember and there are loads.

“But in terms of representing this city and being a symbol, as someone who is a legend in this city with the people that love him, then my hero growing up would have to be Steven Gerrard.”

Liverpool Nike kit release

Bold new kit design explained

Scott Munson, Nike's Vice President of Global Football Apparel, has spoken exclusively with the ECHO to give the full lowdown on the newly-revealed Liverpool kit for the 2020/21 season.

It’s a traditional red shirt but with striking white and teal trim around the sleeves and collar.

“The red, white and teal has been a traditional colour combination for Liverpool over the years, particularly as it relates to the traditional club crest,” he explained.

“The teal holds a further symbolic connection to the city of Liverpool through the Liver Birds that look over the city and have been a prominent fixture on the Liverpool jersey since the club formed in 1892.

“We wanted to bring the teal through in a really interesting and subtle way to nod to the references, but were also mindful that we didn’t want to play around too much with additional colours in order to keep the focus on the red.”
