Dean Huijsen has been hailed as Real Madrid's signing of the century following his standout performances at the Club World Cup.
However, the 20-year-old had his heart set on playing at the Bernabeu.
Despite Liverpool having a fruitful transfer window with the acquisitions of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, missing out on his signature has left their centre-back search to continue and will have come as a blow, especially after his stellar showings under Xabi Alonso in the USA.
He has been an ever-present figure in Real Madrid's line-up so far, completing 90 minutes in both Club World Cup matches and forming a solid partnership with academy graduate Raul Asencio.
The ex-Juventus star recently told Real's club media team: "It's a dream come true for me.

It's the greatest club in the world and I'm very happy and really proud to be here.
