Liverpool's preparations for the new Premier League season are only a matter of weeks away from beginning as they gear up for a return to pre-season.

The Premier League champions will return to the AXA Training Centre on July 7 before facing Prest North End, AC Milan, Yokohama and Athletic Club in friendlies ahead of locking horns with Crystal Palace in the Community Shield.

After that, the Reds return to Anfield on the opening weekend of the Premier League season as they host AFC Bournemouth in L4 on Friday, August 15.

Sky Sports are reporting that Bayer Leverkusen are in talks with Liverpool over a deal to sign Jarell Quansah.

The England international slipped down the pecking order at Anfield last season and made just four starts as Liverpool won the Premier League.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Leverkusen, who lost defender Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich at the end of the season, were interested in the £40 million-rated defender.

Now, Sky Sports claims that "active talks" are ongoing between Liverpool and Leverkusen over a deal for Quansah.

However, it is stated that any deal for the former Bristol Rovers loanee will be separate from Florian Wirtz's move to Anfield.

Quansah put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at Anfield last October.

Federico Chiesa has been warned that he needs to play regularly if he wants to earn his place back on the Italian national team.

Chiesa joined the Reds in a £12m deal from Juventus last summer but started just one game as his new side won the Premier League.

The 26-year-old continues to be linked with a return to Italy, with Napoli seemingly the frontrunners to sign the forward.

And now, new Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso has warned Chiesa that he needs to leave Anfield this summer if he wants to return to the national team.

“I told Chiesa that he needs to find a way to get settled and play consistently," said Gattuso.
