Liverpool is currently in discussions with Salford City regarding a potential move for striker Will Wright.

The Reds are ramping up efforts to enhance their forward options, with Newcastle United's Alexander Isak being a top contender, but they're also keen to bolster their academy ranks.

Wright, 17, is firmly on Liverpool's radar, with talks ongoing with Salford, a club co-owned by Manchester United legends Gary Neville and David Beckham, who bought out their 'Class of '92' ex-Red Devils teammates.

No agreement has been reached between the two clubs as yet.

However, Liverpool isn't the only club eyeing the 6ft 3in teenager

Arsenal, Brentford, Leicester City, and Burnley have all kept tabs on Wright.

Earlier this summer, the Daily Mail reported that Manchester City was set to challenge the Reds for the young player's signature.

Wright is now entering the second year of his scholarship with Salford, having been discovered playing for local teams Euxton Villa and Fylde just two years ago.

He netted over 50 goals at all levels for the League Two side last season and even made an appearance against Pep Guardiola's Man City team in the FA Cup at the Etihad in January.

Wright managed to notch up four appearances for Salford's first team, who are helmed by ex-Liverpool academy coach Karl Robinson, last term, and made it into the matchday squad 11 times.

Gary Nevill co-owns Salford City

"Just to be even playing games, let alone training with the first team.

"Getting the opportunity and gaining the experience and taking things back to the B team and academy where we can influence them and hopefully bring more and more up, hopefully bring more people through and get more debuts."

It comes after Liverpool made an approach to Newcastle for Isak on Tuesday, with the Reds willing to smash their transfer record with a stunning $161 million move for the Swedish striker.

However, Newcastle remains steadfast in its stance that Isak is not for sale at any price, as it pursues a move for Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Hugo Ekitike.
