Liverpool are closing in on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement and fans are pleading with the club to get the deal done.

The newly-crowned Premier League champions are not dwelling on their plans to bolster the squad ahead of next season’s title defence and have pinpointed the right-back position as an area of need.

Alexander-Arnold will vacate the right-back berth he has occupied since breaking into the Reds’ first team in 2016 leaving Conor Bradley as the club’s only recognised deputy.

While many expected Bradley to seamlessly fill the void it appears that boss Arne Slot has other plans and has looked to his homeland for extra competition for the Northern Irishman.

Last week, talkSPORT reported that Liverpool were pushing to sign Dutch international full-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

And now it appears the deal is close with Liverpool looking to meet the star’s £33.6million release clause.

If that wasn’t enough to set pulses raising then a social media post by Frimpong’s agent Jeffery Lemmert has whet the appetite of Reds’ fans.

Lemmert took to Instagram and shared a picture of him on the motorway alongside the caption: “We working.”

Interestingly, he set his location to Manchester to add a little bit of jeopardy to the situation although fans have pointed out that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have an office based in the Greater Manchester area.

While Manchester United or City for that matter would benefit from Frimpong’s expertise, It appears to be Liverpool who are leading the chase for the star and fans are hoping a deal can be struck soon.

A third fan wrote: “He starts over Bradley any day.”

A final fan typed: “He will be a huge signing for us.”

Frimpong joined Leverkusen from Celtic in 2021 following a two-year spell in Glasgow and went on to play a key role in the club’s historic title-winning season 12 months ago.

The 24-year-old starred as Leverkusen posted an unbeaten league season while also lifting the German Cup.

And now it appears he will be following boss Xabi Alonso out of the BayArena.

Although born in the Netherlands, Frimpong is of Ghanaian descent and was eligible to play for the Netherlands, Ghana or England after his family moved to the UK when he was seven years old.

He began his football education in Manchester City’s academy aged nine and developed through the club’s youth system, representing the club in Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League.

Although he doesn’t speak Dutch fluently, Frimpong has clocked up 12 caps for the Netherlands at senior level, scoring once.

He made his debut in a Euro 2024 qualifier against France in 2023 before being named in the squad for the tournament in Germany last summer.
