Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Darwin Nunez is fit to face Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on Sunday after withdrawing from international duty.

The Liverpool striker suffered a hamstring injury in the 4-3 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United before the break. But having pulled out of the Uruguay squad to focus on his recovery, Nunez is already back in full training.

“Darwin is fine. He did his rehab during the week,” Klopp confirmed. “Trained the first day partially, and since then he is in full training.”

Klopp will be without the services of Andy Robertson against Brighton after the left-back suffered an ankle injury in Scotland’s 1-0 defeat to Northern Ireland. However, the Reds boss revealed that the injury is not too serious.

“Robbo, we take it a little day-by-day,” Klopp said. “We will see. Won’t train today but not as bad. That’s fine.”

Klopp also confirmed that Ibrahima Konate will be available to face Brighton, though the clash will likely come too soon for Curtis Jones.

Konate missed Liverpool’s last three games before the international break with a muscle injury, yet played 90 minutes for France in midweek. And while he missed training on Thursday, Klopp allayed any fears about the centre-back suffering a setback.

And while Jones is set to return to training, having missed the last six weeks with an ankle injury, the midfielder remains a doubt to make a comeback against Brighton.

“Curtis, I’m not sure if he’s available,” Klopp said. “But will be in training. Ibou was an extra rest day, nothing else.

“The other boys, from next week on, step by step. I think they will join parts of team training and then then team training so we will see what we do with that.

“They’re not too far away but not in yet. None of them them was yet close to team training but they all make their steps and it’s positive.”
