Joe Gomez is expected to be ruled out for around six weeks after sustaining a leg fracture in Liverpool’s victory over Burnley.

The Reds came back from 1-0 down to clinch a 3-1 win over Sean Dyche’s side at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

Gomez was substituted off after only 23 minutes following a challenge from Burnley defender Ben Mee.

Liverpool said in a statement: ‘Gomez’s injury was further assessed by the Reds’ medical team at Melwood on Thursday.

‘Initial indications suggest the 21-year-old is facing a spell of up to six weeks out of action, though it’s dependent on how his treatment and rehabilitation programmes progress.’
