Crystal Palace have told Liverpool and Newcastle United to cough up £50million for England international Marc Guehi.

The two clubs are already locked in tense negotiations over Toon striker Alexander Isak and are now battling over Selhurst star Guehi.

Newcastle missed out on Guehi 12 months ago after refusing to meet the then asking price of £70m, having a number of bids rising to £65m turned down.

And once again Palace chairman Steve Parish is playing hard ball even though the cultured defender only has a year left on his contract and has knocked back offers of a new deal.

Liverpool have had a £40m bid dismissed by Parish, while Newcastle again are not prepared to come up with the asking price, leaving Guehi in limbo.

It’s the same with his international team-mate Eberechi Eze, with north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham not prepared to pay his £68m release clause and Palace once again standing firm.

Palace have enjoyed a resurgence on the pitch under Oliver Glasner and secured a 12th-place finish in the Premier League last season after stunning Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The Eagles were forced to contend with the departure of Michael Olise last summer, with the talented winger heading to Germany to sign for Bayern Munich.

But the squad regrouped and enjoyed a stunning season under the guidance of their Austrian manager.

Liverpool are on the hunt for a new centre-back after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal last month.

The Reds’ French defender Ibrahima Konate also has just one more year remaining on his current deal and has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid this summer.

Arne Slot’s team have enjoyed a sensational summer in the transfer market after already landing four star players.

The Reds have captured Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen, with Hugo Ekitike arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt and Milos Kerkez making the move from Bournemouth.

They are also pursuing Newcastle striker Isak, but had a £110m bid for the Sweden international rejected by the Magpies at the start of the month.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have shelled out around £55m to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest as they prepare for their return to the Champions League.

The north east giants have also brought in former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton and have the option to make the deal permanent.

And the club are also chasing the signature of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with the Slovenia international’s arrival potentially paving the way for Isak to complete a move to Anfield.
