Liverpool and Arne Slot may consider themselves fortunate following reports that Arsenal have turned down a swap deal involving transfer target and Real Madrid star Rodrygo.

Despite splashing out nearly £200million this summer to strengthen their attack with Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, the Reds are still on the hunt for additional firepower.

Alexander Isak's transfer saga continues to linger after his refusal to play for Newcastle United, but another name that could be on the club's radar is Los Blancos winger Rodrygo.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is reportedly looking for a move away this summer and is admired by several Premier League clubs.

Real have long been interested in the Frenchman and are keen to secure his services in the near future, as his contract expires in 2027.

It has now been suggested that the club have tried to sign Saliba earlier than expected, offering up Rodrygo, who was reportedly already on Arsenal's radar, reports Liverpool.com.

Real are believed to value Rodrygo at around £80m.

Nevertheless, a move for Newcastle's Isak appears to rank higher on the club's priorities.

Following his notification to the Magpies in July regarding his desire to leave, both parties have found themselves locked in a deadlock, with Isak declining to feature and Newcastle refusing to sanction a departure without a suitable fee.

Liverpool initially tabled a £110m bid for Isak, though this was rejected.

He has been conducting training sessions separately from the main squad in a bid to engineer his departure, and became the target of frustrated chanting from Magpies supporters at Villa Park.

Liverpool manager Slot faced questions about his options last week and acknowledged they are seeking to recruit one additional forward, which could prove to be either Isak or Rodrygo.

"I see Hugo [Ekitike] mainly as a No.
