Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has claimed that Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool this summer.

The Egyptians has less than two years remaining on his contract, with his deal at Anfield running out in the summer of 2025.

Last summer, Salah was heavily courted by the Saudi Pro League, with their representatives making no secret of their admiration for him.

The SPL view Liverpool’s No.11 as one of the most influential, if not the most influential, Muslim player in global football.

Although they were determined, as evidenced by Al-Ittihad submitting a breathtaking offer of up to £150 million (€172 million) for Salah, Liverpool did not buckle and opted to keep their talisman.

This season has not exactly gone according to plan for Mohamed Salah and indeed Liverpool, but it was still the correct decision to keep him.

Before his AFCON injury in January this year, the Egyptian was really showing that he was a priceless player.

However, the hamstring injury slowed his season down, and it can be seen in his output levels and general lack of quality while playing since then.

Since returning to action in early March, he has scored just five goals in 13 appearances, well below his typical performance level.

Additionally, Salah has been benched at the start of three of the last six matches, which is unusual for him.

While there is expected to be interest from Saudi Arabia once again, David Ornstein has already reported that he expects Salah to stay.

But Graeme Souness does not agree.

What did Graeme Souness say about Mohamed Salah?

Speaking on the new Three Up Front podcast, the former Liverpool skipper believes Salah has played his last season at Anfield:

“I believe Mohamed Salah is off and leaving Liverpool.

He has been fabulous for Liverpool, but if he leaves to the Saudi Pro League then he’ll be the biggest star in that part of the world.”

“He no doubt has an exceptionally large opinion of himself, and he’ll have been angry at not starting the game against West Ham last week.”

“I think the situation with Jürgen Klopp was a reaction to only being brought on with 10 minutes to go – it was more Salah than it was Klopp in that confrontation.”

He went on further to label the Egyptian as the most selfish player he’s seen, but that it is quality that would get him straight into the Arsenal team as well as the Manchester City side of the last few years:

“Salah is the most selfish player I have ever witnessed.”

“Even prior to that game [vs West Ham], whenever Klopp takes him off, he is never happy about it.”

“That is what you want from your players, if you take them off on two goals, they should want to stay on to score a third.”

“When Sadio Mané was there they’d fall out all the time.”

“Salah has been world class in his time at Liverpool?

Goals change games and his goals have had an enormous influence on Liverpool since he’s been at the club.”

“I think he still gets into the Arsenal team and certainly would’ve gotten into the Manchester City team over the past five years.”
