Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi has rejected an early contract termination at AC Milan

Former Liverpool star Divock Origi remains stranded at AC Milan after rejecting their offer of an early contract termination.

Origi joined the Serie A side in 2022 but has not enjoyed much success in the Italian capital from a personal standpoint, playing for the team in just one season during the last three years.

He scored just twice in the 2022-23 campaign and was then loaned out to Nottingham Forest in 2023-24 and only scored once in 22 appearances.

Origi did not feature in the 2024-25 season and remains on Milan's books with one year remaining on his contract.

According to Tuttosport, the 2019 Champions League winner was summoned to the club's headquarters for talks about his contract.

He was reportedly asked if he would consider an early termination of his deal, which is set to end on June 30, 2026, and was even given "favourable" terms to do so.

But negotiations are said to have stalled after Origi, who earns around £65,000 a week in Milan, showed "resistance" to collecting his severance fee that would have allowed him to cut ties with the Italian outfit.

It goes on to say that regardless of what happens next, Origi will have to remain in Italy "for a long time" due to tax reasons.

Origi, who is now 30, played 175 times for Liverpool, scoring 41 times - including the final goal in their 2-0 win over Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final.

But he saw first team opportunities diminish in his final two seasons at the club before he left on a free transfer, with Milan then offering him a four-year contract in 2022.

After his poorly-received first season at the club, where he was widely criticised by the country's media and mocked by fans, he spent the entirety of last season playing with the Under-23s.

It was reported by Calcio Mercato that he had rejected a number of loan moves earlier last season, following his calamitous loan at Forest.
