Liverpool need to prioritise signing a new centre-back partner for Virgil van Dijk in the remainder of the summer transfer window.

But they remain active in the market, with Newcastle striker Isak and Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi the main two targets.

They saw a £110m bid rejected for Isak at the start of August but could still return with another offer before the window closes on Monday.

Meanwhile, there has been a delay in the Guehi talks, with Palace refusing to discuss his exit until after the second leg of their Conference League play-off against Fredrikstad on Thursday.

Liverpool’s defence has looked vulnerable, with Bournemouth and Newcastle both scoring twice in their opening Premier League games after Crystal Palace had similar joy in the Community Shield.

“But money changes things and the transfer window doesn’t close until next Monday and I’m sure there are going to be loads of deals done before that.”

Palace value Guehi at £45m, while Liverpool are unwilling to go above £35m for the England international.

Oliver Glasner’s side have looked at Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji, Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet and Toulouse’s Jaydee Canvot as possible replacements.

Liverpool host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday in an early meeting of two potential title contenders.
