The Daily Mail has provided an interesting perspective on Liverpool’s search for a defender this summer.

Liverpool’s busy summer transfer window is set to continue with the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in the coming days.

The Reds have already struck a deal worth around £40 million to bring the Hungarian international to Anfield this summer.

Kerkez, who flew into Liverpool’s training facilities from Serbia on Monday evening, completed his medical on Tuesday.

His announcement is expected in the coming days, and he is set to be Liverpool’s fourth signing this summer after Armin Pecsi, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.

Still on transfer business this summer, the club has announced the departure of cult hero Nat Phillips to West Brom.

The defender signed for the Championship club earlier this week in a deal that is expected to fetch Liverpool around £3 million.

After Phillips, Liverpool are likely to announce the departure of Jarell Quansah?

The Englishman has agreed to move to Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £35 million.

The Reds have reportedly secured a release clause in Quansah’s deal, with a recent report detailing when the release clause becomes active.

Quansah’s departure will mean that the Reds will sign a new centre-back.

The club admires Crystal Palace’s March Guehi, as well as Nottingham Forest’s Murillo, as we exclusively revealed.

Both players have Premier League experience, and Arne Slot sees them as fitting the profile of the kind of player they will want in the team.

However, a new report from the Daily Mail has revealed that not only are Liverpool looking for established centre-backs, the club have its sights set on a young defender who can learn the ropes from Virgil van Dijk and eventually replace him when he departs.

Speaking about Liverpool’s plans to find a replacement for Quansah, Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele name-checked Ajax defender Jorrle Hato as a potential signing Liverpool could make, given he fits the profile of a young defender with a high ceiling.

“Liverpool’s main desire, as reported last week, is a young prospect who can eventually grow into a Virgil van Dijk replacement,” the journalist wrote.

“I mentioned Jorrel Hato at Ajax as one they like, which is certainly the case, after they missed out on teenagers Lenny Yoro and Dean Huijsen in the last two summer windows.

“As well as this desire for a youthful face, they will keep abreast of market opportunities.”
