At present it is Darwin Nunez who occupies Liverpool's No.9 shirt, however that fact could quickly change as Arne Slot's transfer masterplan looks to enter its next phase.

Alexander Isak has been described as the 'dream' signing of this Liverpool team as he has proven to be one of the Premier League's deadliest finishers - add that to an attack including Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz, the possibilities seem endless.

Meanwhile Hugo Ekitike is another who has been sounded out in rumours at a lower price, though not much lower it would seem.

Now entering the fray is a new name, Viktor Gyokeres, in the latest exciting Anfield transfer development.

Here, the ECHO looks at what has been said about Gyokeres and a summer move in the latest Reds transfer headlines...

Portuguese media claims

Portuguese news outlet Correio de Manha reports Liverpool have 'entered the race' for Viktor Gyokeres against their Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United this summer.

Having just broken their club record for a signing by bringing Florian Wirtz to Anfield for £116m, the asking price for the Sweden international would not be a problem, the report claims.

It further adds that, in the last few days, Liverpool have 'given instructions to their representative' to confirm with Sporting CP a possible transfer fee.

Added to what money already exists the funds received from the sale of Nunez and possibly Luis Diaz too, and Liverpool would have their kitty to go out and land Gyokeres.

Gyokeres 'decision'

However, according to TNT Sports, Liverpool have no interest in signing the otherwise highly sought after Gyokeres.

Even if Nunez is shifted, it is claimed they do not view the Sporting CP striker as an option for his replacement

Following his 97 goals over two seasons in Portugal, the 27-year-old has been linked mostly with rivals Arsenal and Manchester United

Long before the summer there was talk of a 'gentleman's agreement' between Sporting and their player for him to leave in a deal closer to £58m instead of his £85m release clause being enforced.

But the club's president denied this agreement and there has been a level of 'anger' over this as Gyokeres tries to secure his future at a top European club.

According to TNT Sport, however, it seems he may not be headed to Liverpool.
