Liverpool have submitted an opening bid for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi worth £35million and are willing to include a 10 per cent sell-on clause too.

Palace are open to selling their skipper because his contract at Selhurst Park expires in 12 months' time but have responded with a counter-offer of £35m plus £5m in add-ons plus the 10 per cent sell-on clause.

BBC Sport confirmed the Eagles' response after it was claimed Palace were delaying a response to the Liverpool offer because they are first eager to secure a replacement for the 25-year-old.

Palace had earlier floated the possibility of doing a swap deal that would have taken Joe Gomez on loan to the London club.

Guehi is eager to make the move and has informed Palace of his desire to do so.
