Liverpool under Arne Slot had a brilliant 2024/25 season, winning the Premier League and giving a good account of themselves across all competitions.
However, they have not rested on their laurels and have shown proactiveness in the transfer market.
The Reds have moved quickly to wrap up deals for Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz and have also managed to tie down the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah to new contracts at Anfield.
They have had one high-profile exit in Trent Alexander-Arnold, who rather unceremoniously left to join Real Madrid and have also sold Jarrel Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen with a buy-back clause.
However, it looks like they are not done.
One player that the Reds are looking to move on is Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez and had identified Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike as potential alternatives.
Now, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have made direct contact with Newcastle United for the Swedish striker.
Isak is widely touted as one of the best number nines going around in the world at the moment.
Club legend Jamie Carragher even labelled him ‘the best striker in the Premier League‘ for his exploits for the Magpies last season.
The ex-Real Sociedad number nine had a brilliant 2024/25 campaign.
Isak also managed to overcome his injury troubles and managed to stay fit for the majority of the campaign.
The report mentions that Liverpool are extremely interested in signing the 25-year-old striker but the decision is upto Newcastle United who so far have shown no interest in selling the player and would rather renew his contract.
If the Reds do not make headway down this lane, they would shift their focus on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
