Premier League victors Liverpool paid tribute to newly-crowned FA Cup winners Crystal Palace with a guard of honor on the season's final day at Anfield.

Having been on the receiving end of this gesture from Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton in their three matches since clinching the title, the Reds reciprocated the respect for Sunday's opponents Palace, following the visitors' own show of appreciation.

Skipper Virgil van Dijk led his team to one side, with central defensive mate Ibrahima Konate lining up on the other as Palace captain Dean Henderson guided his players through to resounding cheers from all corners of Anfield.

Palace claimed the FA Cup last Saturday by defeating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley, where Eberechi Eze netted the solitary goal and keeper Henderson put on a stellar performance, including saving a penalty from Omar Marmoush

Rumours had been swirling that Liverpool would perform the gesture for Palace before the match, and the Reds' generosity extended into the ninth minute when lax defending allowed Ismaila Sarr to break the deadlock for Palace, who could secure a top half finish with a victory.

Former Liverpool gaffers Jurgen Klopp and Rafa Benitez are present at Anfield for the clash, along with Benitez's former Reds skipper Steven Gerrard on the 20th anniversary of their Champions League triumph together in Istanbul.

Liverpool and Palace players shake hands before the game

Anfield was buzzing with excitement ahead of the match against Palace, after which the Reds will hoist the Premier League trophy and celebrate their 20th top-flight title.

In his programme notes before the game, Liverpool's gaffer Arne Slot expressed: "Lifting the Premier League trophy in front of fans is something that so many people have longed for and this means it is a privilege for all of us who are fortunate enough to be involved, no matter which role we are in.

"For me as head coach, my overriding feeling is pride but not for myself – for the players, the staff, the supporters, the club and the city.

"The hard work and effort, the commitment and the devotion that has been put in not just this season but also in the years before is why we are in the position to make today every bit as special as we all could wish for."

The Reds will get their hands on the Premier League trophy at the end of the game, with a parade scheduled in the city for Monday

Thousands of Liverpool fans are expected to line the streets of the city to celebrate.
