Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool.

The Alexander Isak transfer saga shows no sign of letting up.

The wantaway Newcastle United striker, a Liverpool target, has been training individually at former club Real Sociedad in recent days.

After Isak was omitted from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Singapore and South Korea, for what, it was claimed, was a ‘minor thigh injury’, speculation has been rife as to his future, with Isak having told Magpies chiefs that he wishes to explore his options this summer.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted that what happens next with the talismanic 25-year-old Swede was not entirely up to him, but he also said that the club had a “degree of control”.

What will be the key consideration now is how much leverage they have and the mechanics of getting a replacement ahead of any sale.

Benjamin Sesko is now a priority target of Manchester United, having been on Newcastle’s target list all summer.

Isak has three years remaining, giving Newcastle considerable coverage when it comes to being able to demand a top fee for him, with the Magpies said to want in the region of £150m.

It is a tricky situation for the Reds.

But Newcastle need the biggest price possible to be able to put the money to work across the team, with the rigours of Champions League football taking a toll on squads with a smaller rotation.

No bid has been lodged, but Isak has been said to want the Liverpool move if it’s offered up.
