Liverpool’s draw against Arsenal on Sunday was ultimately all about Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds played out an entertaining game against the Gunners in which they partly underlined their status as champions.

But no matter how interesting some of the football Liverpool played was, the ferocious reaction to Alexander-Arnold being substituted on stole all the headlines.

After almost nine years in the Liverpool first-team, Alexander-Arnold is heading for Real Madrid this summer.

Real had a huge game themselves on Sunday, succumbing to a 4-3 loss in the Clasico against Barcelona which all-but confirmed the Catalans as La Liga champions.

And although Liverpool fans will be sick of the sight of Real Madrid right now, what happened with transfer target Rodrygo Goes during the match should have them intrigued.

As Rousing The Kop reported earlier on Sunday, Liverpool are monitoring Rodrygo’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has fallen out of favour in Madrid and is considering a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Although he is waiting to hear the plans of incoming manager Xabi Alonso before making a final decision, incidents such as Sunday’s Clasico are not going to do much in convincing Rodrygo to stay.

Real were initially 2-0 up, but having gone behind in the 34th minute, they were on the back foot for most of the game.

Despite needing at least two goals in the second-half, and then one more for the final 20 minutes, Rodrygo remained glued to the bench.

As per journalist and Real Madrid fan Lucas Navarrete on X, Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to turn to youngster Victor Munoz for his senior debut instead of Rodrygo has likely sealed the Brazilian’s fate.

“Rodrygo not getting minutes ahead of Victor Munoz is quite an obvious indication that he is out of this club already,” says Navarrete.

If Ancelotti were staying at Madrid, this would be a very clear indication that Rodrygo has no future in Madrid.

But the arrival of Alonso may give Madridistas some faint hope.

Either way, Liverpool should be looking at the Brazil international’s situation and now feeling that they can convince him of the Anfield project.

Still only 24, Rodrygo would be an exciting and heavyweight signing that would send a signal of intent about Liverpool’s prospects next season.

A versatile forward who has spent time playing on either flank, there is even a possibility that Rodrygo could be the long-awaited centre-forward signing Liverpool are crying out for.

Many Reds fans would not be crazy about the idea of sending a bucket-load of cash Real’s way after the Alexander-Arnold saga, but it’s starting to look like the opportunity could be there to steal one of Europe’s most underrated attackers.
