However, with Liverpool’s deal for Florian Wirtz now edging closer to completion, it feels like the Merseyside outfit may have got the last laugh over Real Madrid.

As mentioned, Wirtz’s transfer to Liverpool is as good as completed, with the Reds and Bayer Leverkusen agreeing on a deal worth around £116million when all the add-ons are included.

However, as per a report from the Liverpool ECHO, it seems like Arne Slot managed to beat more than just Bayern Munich and Manchester City to a deal.

The newspaper shared the following via their website: “Liverpool have fended off competition from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and late interest from Real Madrid to land Wirtz.”

This is good news for Liverpool because, as well as losing Alexander-Arnold, they also missed out on the transfer of Dean Huijsen, who made the switch to Los Blancos for £50million as soon as the window opened.
