Liverpool are still working hard to get deals over the line and Marc Guehi could just be the next to come through the door.
The Reds have just over a week left until the transfer window closes and despite their rather hectic start to the summer, things have quietened down as of late.
Rumours have not died down, however, and they suggest that Liverpool still want Alexander Isak, of course, as well as another centre-back.
Crystal Palace captain Guehi seems to be the only viable option at this point in time, with the Reds seeing the Englishman as a market opportunity too good not to explore.
With that being said, there appears to be a worrying factor surrounding this potential deal that Liverpool should perhaps be taking note of, with it truly being strange given Guehi’s talent.

In the past, Guehi has been one of the hottest talents in the Premier League and many teams were willing to pay extortionate amounts for his signature.
Newcastle and Tottenham both had bids turned down previously worth around £70m, almost double what he looks like he might go for, less than six months later.
So, that begs the question, why are no other top clubs going all-out to buy him now?

Newcastle needed a centre-back but opted for AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw instead, while Spurs are still monitoring their options as they would ideally like one more addition.

Manchester City will also only attempt to sign Guehi if they sell first, although they seem to prefer to keep the options they currently have rather than making a move for the Palace star.
Although this could be good news for the Reds as they have somewhat of a free run at him, the fact no one else is really interested could also be seen as a red flag.
He has shined for Palace over the years and for the England national team last summer, but the lack of interest would suggest that he is still not fully trusted at the highest level.
As things stand, Guehi clearly has two options: either he leaves Palace this summer or he goes on a free transfer next year.
Signing a new contract appears out of the question and in that case, Steve Parish seems like he wants to cash in, meaning Liverpool could get him for much less than their £40m asking price.
Around £30m is what the Reds would like to do a deal at but that seems quite unlikely, suggesting that waiting a year might be the best option.
As he would arrive for nothing, that would eliminate any risk of him ‘not being good enough’ as they will be sure to make a profit either way.
They also have a few options already at centre-back and barring any injuries, they might be able to get away without buying him now, although it is certainly a big risk.
Competition for Guehi would also increase next summer so they could lose out on him, but with no other club interested in him now, it might be worth taking the gamble and waiting.
