One Liverpool midfielder has clearly revealed what he wants about his future following a tough season.
Liverpool have been very active in the transfer market, with the signing of six players.
The Reds’ summer business means that several decisions has to be made regarding Arne Slot’s squad going into next season.
Some players have already waved their teammates goodbye this summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold the first to leave.
Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Nat Phillips have all followed so far, with Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa expected to join them out of the exit door.
Other players that have big decisions to make on their future are Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton.
Morton for example is at the cross roads this summer, after another poor season where he made just five appearances for Liverpool.
A graduate of the club’s famed academy, Morton has had successful loan spell away from Liverpool and also played a key role in England U21’s Euro triumph this summer.
Last summer, several clubs indicated on signing the midfielder on a permanent deal.
Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen were one of such club that held genuine interest in Morton, while several clubs in the UK also expressed interest in taking him on loan.
However, his exit was blocked by Arne Slot, who considered him a valuable player, who could fill in in the defensive midfield position.
But Morton found himself behind in the pecking order, with Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, Curtis Jones and Alexis McAllister all ahead of him in that position.
Once again, he is at a cross-road in his career and has a decision to make this summer.
The summer window appears set to change things.
Liverpool are now open to a permanent departure.
Ajax, West Ham, Braga, and Club Brugge have all shown serious interest in a deal estimated around €7–15 million, according to sources.
West Ham appear to be the most serious in his services.
The Hammers are reportedly working on a potential move for Morton and his Liverpool teammate Harvey Elliott.
With Liverpool eager to balance books and Morton eager to play, a transfer this summer seems increasingly likely.
Morton himself described 2024–25 as “the toughest season mentally,” admitting that while staying at Liverpool was a choice made after discussions with the manager, it left him frustrated at his lack of playing time.
He has now reiterated his desire for more game time, stating that last season was tough for him.
“I’m looking for game time, simple as that really,” he told The Redmen TV at the weekend.
“Last season was tough for game time for myself.
So, I learned a lot last year off players, manager, and stuff, but now I’m ready to play.”
With Tyler Morton now publicly expressing his desire for regular minutes and Liverpool willing to consider a sale, a summer departure seems increasingly inevitable.
Several clubs are circling, and with West Ham showing serious intent, the 21-year-old could soon get the opportunity to reignite his career elsewhere.
For Morton, this summer marks a crucial turning point — one that could finally provide the platform for consistent top-level football he has long been seeking.
