The new Premier League season is just a day away, and all eyes will be on Liverpool as Arne Slot’s side begins the defence of their title.
After missing out on the first piece of silverware in the 2025/26 campaign following a penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, the Reds will be eager to put that setback behind them and make a strong start in the league.
With just over two weeks remaining in the transfer window, further business remains possible in what has already been a busy summer.
Giovanni Leoni is on the verge of joining the club, while Marc Guehi could be next through the door.
The Reds are keen on strengthening their defence after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for up to £35m.
Liverpool have confirmed that Luca Stephenson has signed a new contract and has rejoined Dundee United on loan.
He was named Young Player of the Season in 2024/25 after three goals in 34 games.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined the Reds from Sunderland at U15 level, has yet to make his senior debut but impressed in pre-season.
He previously spent 2023/24 on loan at Barrow.
Dundee United Manager Jim Goodwin said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Luca back to Tannadice.
“He made a tremendous impact last season, not just in terms of performances, but in the mentality and energy he brought to the group every single day.”
“Even when he was struggling physically, he gave everything for the badge – that tells you all you need to know about his character.
“Luca’s return was a priority for us this window – he brings something unique in terms of his leadership, versatility and understanding of how we want to play.
The Irishman continued: “He’s come back stronger, fully fit, and hungry to pick up where he left off.
“He’s had a brilliant summer working under Arne Slot and alongside some of the best players in the world – that experience will serve him and us incredibly well this season.
“Luca knows what this club stands for, the standards expected and the passion of our fanbase.
“To bring in someone of his quality, who’s already embedded in the culture and values of the club, is a massive boost.”
