Trey Nyoni has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool as a reward for the progress made over the last 12 months.

Nyoni, who turned 18 on Monday June 30, became fourth-youngest debutant in Anfield history when he emerged off the bench in an FA Cup win over Southampton in February 2024 at the age of 16 years and 243 days.

The youngster was given opportunities during pre-season under Arne Slot last year and scored an eye-catching strike the 4-1 friendly victory over Sevilla at Anfield in August 2024.

Upon his arrival at the club, at the start of the 23/24 term, he progressed rapidly from the Under-18s - scoring a late derby winner against Everton on his home debut - and is now a regular with the U21s.

He captained the U19 side in their goalless UEFA Youth League opener at AC Milan in September last year, weeks after he was taken on the club's pre-season tour of the United States by Slot.

After being introduced as a substitute in a Carabao Cup win at Brighton & Hove Albion in October, he was given his full debut in the quarter-final of the competition as the Reds overcame Southampton in December at St Mary's.

The midfielder, who arrived from Leicester City in 2023, has since made five appearances for the senior side, most recently starting in a much-changed team that was beaten in the FA Cup by Plymouth in February.

He is currently the youngest player to feature in Europe for Liverpool, having been introduced as a substitute for the Champions League loss at PSV Eindhoven in January, aged 17 years and 213 days.

Nyoni is expected to play an important part next season for the club's Under-21 ranks when new manager Rob Page takes charge having been confirmed as Barry Lewtas's successor last week.

The teenager signed his first professional contract in October 2024.
