Lutsharel Geertruida set tongues wagging after seemingly attending Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United on Saturday.

The Feyenoord defender has been tentatively linked with a move to Anfield in recent days, as the Reds close in on the appointment of the 23-year-old’s manager, Arne Slot, as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

Wataru Endo has enjoyed an impressive first season at Anfield, but will turn 32 next season, while Stefan Bajcetic is still 19 and has been sidelined for over a year through injury.

Consequently, while Geertruida, who has made more appearances for Slot (124) than any other player during the Dutchman’s managerial career, could certainly end up being a viable signing for the Reds, it remains debatable just how pressing the need for such a signing would be.

Yet Geertruida isn’t the only player who could be tipped for a reunion with Slot at Liverpool.

The Reds were in the market for a new centre-back last summer, only to prioritise their midfield overhaul instead.

However, the left-footer is also capable of playing at left-back with a handful of his outings for the Dutch club coming in such a position.

With Liverpool likely to be in the market for such a player in the summer, it will be intriguing to see if Slot is interested in signing Hancko for a second time and bringing him to Anfield.

Meanwhile, even before Slot was lined up to replace Klopp as Reds manager, Liverpool continued to be linked with a move for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

Back in January, iNews reported that Liverpool have been scouting Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in recent months, and suggested that assistant manager Pep Lijnders is a fan.

The Reds were also linked with the left-footer back in 2021 when it became clear that Gini Wijnaldum would leave Anfield at the end of his contract.

Then on the books of AZ Alkmaar, where he was club captain despite his tender years, Koopmeiners was touted as a potential replacement for his compatriot, only to join Atalanta that August in a €12m deal.

It was at AZ where Koopmeiners played under Slot, making 58 appearances over two seasons.

Brought to Liverpool in a £4.5m switch from Juventus in August 2010, he made just 21 appearances as he struggled to adapt to English football, and was then offloaded to French Ligue 2 champions Evian Thonon Gaillard in the summer of 2011 as the Reds quickly looked to overwrite Hodgson’s unsuccessful time at the club.

If Slot wished to recruit some familiar faces at Liverpool, obvious contenders arise due to previous transfer speculation.

So while Liverpool might continue to find themselves linked with players that have played under Slot before, the prospect of any such player actually moving to Anfield is far from a foregone conclusion.
