Liverpool might have successfully overseen an £150m midfield overhaul this summer, but they were not able to complete all of their desired incoming transfer business. However, the unexpected departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia instead resulted in Liverpool recruiting Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, having already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai before the start of pre-season. Ideally favouring a left-sided centre-back, had liked the look of Levi Colwill at Chelsea. But once he signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, it soon became clear that, having needed to sign additional midfielders, the Reds’ search for a new defender would have to wait. The England Under-21s international wasn’t the only centre-back Liverpool were reportedly interested in this summer though.

Understandably, with no senior defenders leaving the club this summer, Liverpool had no desire to spend £43m on such a squad player.

While Liverpool now moved on from looking at Van de Ven, they’re instead watching Quansah’s career with great interest.
